hi everyone welcome back to my kitchen and another installment for easter week today i have an incredible cannoli trifle that is going to grace your easter table is going to be perfect for taking along as a dessert if you have been asked to provide one or it's just going to be a beautiful ending to your easter meal or really any meal this is full of all the flavors in a cannoli only it's built up like a trifle, and i can't wait to show you how this all comes together we're going to build a cannoli trifle, and this is just you know any other tribal would have cake

filling and some additional mix-ins, and that's exactly what this is only think of cannoli filling which we're gonna build and it's gonna be a little bit different from a traditional cannoli filling because we're gonna have some whipped cream i have one cup of heavy cream that i whipped here we're gonna use some ricotta cheese, and this is a 2 pound tub of a good-quality whole milk ricotta and you can see how thick this is it has very little moisture in it and that's what you want if your ricotta is a little more watery than that you're going to want to think ahead and you're gonna want to put that in some cheesecloth in your fridge

overnight so that all of the liquid comes out of it. i don't need to do that with this i have a brick of cream cheese here that we're gonna whip into the filling and we're going to use some vanilla i have some vanilla paste you can use vanilla extract. i have some fiore ad cecelia this is a very highly concentrated flavoring that contains vanilla and orange oil, and you literally need like an eighth of a teaspoon and it's going to add amazing flavor if you don't have this you can use orange extract or you can just leave it out we're going to use miniature chocolate chips i have some chopped pistachios

and i have about a cups worth of crushed sugar cone ice cream cones, and this is going to kind of simulate the crunch that you get from the cannoli shell and i have about a half a cup of candied orange peel that's what this is here and this is sold where they sell like the candied fruits for fruitcake and at christmastime. i pick these up they also do lemon peel and candied ginger and like the candied cherries and i use these for up throughout the year with on different recipes so i always pick those up after christmas when they are drastically discounted and what i have here is one half of my pound cake recipe which makes two loaves

so i cut it in half i made one half of that recipe and i baked it in a half sheet pan and then i cut it up into cubes i made this yesterday, and i just cut it up into cubes and that's what we're going to use to build our trifle, so now i'm gonna clear some of this stuff away and we're going to start to build our cannoli cream okay, we're gonna start building our cannoli cream and like i said this is a little different from others you may have seen because i add cream cheese into this and i actually add it for tang and for stability because there is a little gelatin in the cream cheese it's gonna kind of help everything hold together

so i have the ricotta and the softened cream cheese in my bowl and i'm just gonna go ahead and use the same beaters as i use to beat the whipped cream, and i'm gonna blend this together and that's how hard that is now i'm gonna go ahead and i'm gonna add the orange just this is the candied orange peel. i'm gonna add that in there this is optional you do not have to use that if you do not want to but i really like the wave in it. it really adds a lovely extra extra ness is that a word, but you know what i'm saying. i'm gonna add a tablespoon of vanilla extract this is vanilla paste

and i am down at the bottom of the bottle so i added a little water to it because you know i paid for it, and i'm gonna use it so i'm gonna use quarter of a teaspoon of the fiore and seriously that's all you need this might actually be a little much so i'm gonna err on the side of less just under a quarter of a teaspoon because that's very powerful and potent stuff because it's made with orange oil. it's very very strong. i'm gonna blend this together oh, it smells wonderful and now i'm gonna fold in this cream that i previously whipped

we're just gonna fold that in this is gonna lend a lightness to that filling and it's going to make the trifle just really beautiful and creamy i mean even more so than just that cream cheese and that ricotta some people like to add allspice and or cinnamon in mind. i am not doing that because i don't prefer that but if you like you can add a teaspoon of cinnamon and half a teaspoon of allspice into yours okay you guys we're some of you out there going what there's no sugar in this. i made a grave error i didn't put it in the ingredient setup, and i wasn't even thinking so yes. there's sugar in this i have a cup of powdered sugar

we're gonna go ahead and add that learn from my mistakes make sure that you have all of your proper ingredients out and about before you begin making your recipe and even though i just folded all of that in there i'm gonna go ahead and use the mixer to blend this all together so let me taste this you taste it and tell me if that tastes better off-camera i tasted it and i asked him i before i tasted it i said how does that taste and he said tasted pretty good, and i tasted i'm like oh no, i forgot the sugar mitten he's like well. that would be why i didn't taste sweet oh that's so much better so much better

it needs the sugar okay, the first thing i want to do is add some cannoli cream to the bottom of my bowl now i have a trifle bowl somewhere, but do you think i know where it is heck no did i feel like going around searching for it heck? no. it's probably out my storage somewhere so you don't have to build this in trifle bowl you can build this however you like you can make individual portions in plastic cups you can use little clear plastic cups if you're making this for a crowd or you could make it in a nice clear bowl or if you have like a cake dough more cake pedestal you can turn it upside down

this is the base and then you can put the lid upside down inside the base and then you can build your trifle enough, and it will be really cute, so we've got cannoli cream mini chocolate chips chalk pastels that's optional. if you don't want to use the nuts you don't have to i took about six sugar cone ice cream cones, and i just crushed them up now they're not gonna stay crunchy crunchy if you let this sit for a couple of days, but it's going to add a lovely crunch to it you can eat this as soon as you make it and then we're gonna take our pound cake and

add some of these cubes in here and then we're gonna add we're just going to keep going we're gonna layer some more cannoli cream and then we're just gonna layer in more chocolate chips with the rest of our cannoli cream and just spread that out, and then this is where you're going to just show everybody what it is and it's inside and that's it that's how you make a really delicious cannoli trifle there you have it there is our cannoli

trifle all ready to go and like i said you can um you can stick this in the fridge for a couple of hours before you eat it but we're gonna dig right in and i'm gonna show you what it looks like i have just this glass coffee mug here, and we're gonna just dig down and we're gonna scoop out some of this delicious miss and there it is our cannoli trifle all ready to be served up and enjoyed you ready to taste it

you do wow which is like a cannoli. oh my gosh. that's delicious mmm, mmm. it's so good it's not overly sweet you can taste everything the orange the chocolate the crunchy pistachio is the crunchy ice cream cone which is going to simulate the cannoli shell? the creamy filling it's all there and it's all there in a big bowl that you can make really quick and take to an event and serve a lot of people
