not too traditional, but not too crazy modern either if there's one special feature in this kitchen that you could have that you don't have right now what would that be i would like a huge island because it would be great for entertaining right now there is a desk area in the kitchen and do you need that desk area to stay i need to go okay? well, i'm gonna start measuring your kitchen taking some digital photographs, and then go away and do a little design work and i will have fun things to show you whenever i'm starting a design my first step is to measure the space and draw a floor plan you could do that too all you need is a piece of paper and a measuring tape start by drawing out the shape of your room
and then measure each of the walls if you draw it to scale then it's easy to start filling in with furniture and cabinetry to see what's going to fit so i'll get started you okay, i've drawn on my floor plan i've taken all my notes and now i'm gonna go back to my studio to start creating this design we're here in greenville south carolina where we've selected our contracting team daniel builders the countertops the appliances and cabinetry will now all be donated to habitat for humanity all right today is the big day. i am meeting with daniel jack ins he is the owner of daniel builders
daniel you have been busy in here exciting it is very exciting so we now have our blank space. here's where we're going with the design awesome okay, very cool on this wall. i actually want to do this subway wow very cool for our islands we are gonna go big you got a cooktop. we've got an oven here so now we've got two of us your microwave in this kitchen and that's where i want to have the island extend out to make a four person seating area you're ready to begin construction right we're ready come back soon and see what we've done daniel and his crew have been hard at work creating custom cabinetry for lillian's dream kitchen they'll rework all of our electrical so that we can hang beautiful chandeliers. that'll be a great focal point in the space
finishing touches like our backsplash tile are going in and soon lillian's dream kitchen will be complete okay, daniel we're getting close to the end, but i heard we had some trouble along the way what happened yes so the day after demo we came and found out we had a water leak in the kitchen one of the water valves at the sink decided to leak in the middle of the night, and so we found water on the floor not good when we have hardwood floors, so what did you do to fix it well? we've pulled the carpet back in the next room, and we've set up dehumidifiers and we believe we're gonna be okay a

not only are these chandeliers 2 feet tall but we went with two instead of one the trick is to mount them so that the bottom of the chandeliers is 6 feet high that way they're not on your eye line and they don't overpower the space now lillian's favorite color is teal so we decided to go with a teal backsplash this tile was one of our spurge items at $20 a square foot but you can easily find other colorful tiles at your local big box store for around two to five dollars a square foot lillian is a big cook so she wanted a lot of appliances but appliances like these can cost sometimes $20,000 when you can put the appliances together in one package
